Accountability on the Day of Judgement

SUMMARY: This hadith talks about the accountability of a person on the Day of Judgement, and how they will be asked about their life, youth, wealth and knowledge.

Ibn Mas'ud narrated that the Messenger of Allah SAW said: "The feet of the son of Adam shall not move from before his Lord on the Day of Judgement, until he is asked about five things: About his life and what he did with it, about his youth and what he wore it out in, about his wealth and how he earned it, and spent it upon, and what he did with what he knew". (Da'if) Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Gharib, we do not know of it as a narration of Ibn Mas'üd from the Prophet except through the narration of Husain bin Qais. Husain bin Qais was graded weak in Hadith due to his memory. There are narrations on this topic from Abu Barzah and Abu Sa'eed.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of being accountable for our actions in this world. On the Day of Judgement, we will be asked by Allah SWT about our lives and what we did with it; our youth and how we spent it; our wealth and how we earned it as well as spent it; and finally what we did with what we knew. We must remember that all these things are a trust from Allah SWT to us, so it is important that use them in ways that please Him. We should strive to make sure that whatever decisions or actions taken during these times are done according to His guidance so that when He asks us on the Day of Judgement, He is pleased with us.
