Jami at-Tirmidhi 2389 (Book 36, Hadith 86) #28023
Good Behaviour and Sin

SUMMARY: The Prophet (s.a.w) taught that righteousness is good behaviour and sin is something that one would not want others to know about them.

An-Nawwas bin Sama'an narrated that a man came asking the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) about righteousness and sin. So the Prophet (s.a.w) said: "Righteousness is good behaviour, and sin is what fluctuates in your chest, and you would hate that the people discovered it about you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind to others , Help those in need , Be honest in all dealings with people .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the difference between righteousness and sin. Righteousness is defined as good behaviour which includes being kind to others, helping those in need and being honest in all our dealings with people. On the other hand, sin is something that we would not want others to know about us; it can be a thought or an action which goes against what Allah has commanded us to do or stay away from doing. It can also be something which we feel guilty about but still do it anyway because of our own desires or weaknesses. This hadith reminds us of the importance of having good character and avoiding sinful actions so that we can please Allah and gain His rewards in this life as well as the hereafter.
