The Lasting Legacy of Deeds

SUMMARY: The deeds of a person remain after their death, while their family and wealth return.

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (S.a.w) said: "Three follow the deceased, two of them return, and one remains. He is followed by his family, his wealth, and his deeds. So his family and his wealth returns, and his deeds remain".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds throughout your life so you can leave behind a positive legacy when you pass away.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Anas bin Malik speaks to the lasting legacy that a person leaves behind after they pass away. It states that three things follow a deceased person, two of which return while one remains. These three things are the family, wealth and deeds of the deceased. While the family and wealth will eventually be returned to those who were in possession before, it is only the deeds that remain with them forever. This means that whatever good or bad actions we do in our lifetime will stay with us even after we die; they will be remembered by Allah and judged accordingly on Judgment Day. Therefore, it is important for us to strive to do as many good deeds as possible during our lifetime so that we can leave behind a positive legacy for ourselves when we pass away.
