Empathy in Hunger

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) empathized with his companions when they complained of hunger and exposed their stomachs to show how thin they were, and he showed them that he was in the same situation by exposing two stones on his stomach.

Anas bin Malik narrated from Abu Talhah who said: "We complained to the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) of hunger and we raised(our garments ) from our stomachs (exposing) a stone (on each of us). So the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) raised (his garment exposing) two stones".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's empathy for his companions when they complained of hunger. When the companions raised their garments from their stomachs to expose a stone on each of them due to extreme hunger, the Prophet Muhammad raised his garment to expose two stones on his own stomach as a sign that he was also going through similar hardships as them. This hadith teaches us about empathy and understanding for those who are going through difficult times such as poverty or hunger. It also teaches us that even if we are not facing similar difficulties ourselves, we should still be able to understand what others are going through and try our best to help them out in any way possible.
