Making the Most of Life

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) taught that life is short and to make the most of it by striving for what is hoped for in the future.

Anas bin Malik narrated that that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: "This is the son of Adam, and this is his life-span". And he placed his hand at the (height of the) nape of his neck, then he extended it (higher) and said:" From there is what is hoped for, from there is what is hoped for".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your mortality; use your time wisely; work hard with faith and determination; strive for what you hope for in the future .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) taught us that life is short and to make the most of it by striving for what is hoped for in the future. He demonstrated this by placing his hand at the nape of his neck and extending it higher to signify that there are greater things beyond our current lives which we should strive towards achieving. This hadith encourages us to be mindful of our mortality and use our time wisely so as not to waste any opportunities or moments in life that could be used productively towards achieving something greater than ourselves. It also serves as a reminder that although we may have limited time on earth, there are still many possibilities available if we work hard enough towards them with faith and determination.
