Jami at-Tirmidhi 2173 (Book 33, Hadith 16) #27806
Upholding Allah's Laws for Salvation

SUMMARY: The parable of the hadith is that if people uphold Allah's laws, they will be saved from destruction, but if they breach them, then everyone will suffer.

An-Nu'man bin Bashir narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "The parable of the one who upholds Allah's laws and the one who breaches them, is that of a people who drew lots on a ship at sea. Some of them got the upper part, and some of them the lower part. Those on the lower part ascended to get water, spilling it upon those upper part. So those in the upper part say: 'We will not leave you to come up here and bother us'. Then those on the lower part say: 'We should make a hole in the lower part, so we can get water'. If they take them by the hand and stop them, then they will save all of them, and if they leave them, they will all drown"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God's commands and follow His guidance .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of obeying Allah's laws. It tells us that when we obey Allah's laws, it can save us from destruction and harm. The parable in this hadith is about a group of people on a ship at sea who drew lots to decide who would get the upper part and who would get the lower part. Those on the lower part needed water so they tried to ascend to get it but those on the upper part stopped them because they were afraid of being bothered by them. In this situation, if those on the upper part take those on the lower by hand and stop them from getting water then all of them will be saved from drowning in sea otherwise all will drown together. This parable teaches us that when we obey Allah’s laws then everyone can be saved from destruction or harm otherwise everyone will suffer together due to disobedience towards God’s commands.
