Jami at-Tirmidhi 2151 (Book 32, Hadith 19) #27784
Contentment & Guidance from Allah

SUMMARY: The gist of this hadith is that one should be content with what Allah has decreed for them and not be angry, and to seek guidance from Allah.

Sa'd narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'From (the signs of) the son of Adam's prosperity, is his satisfaction with what Allah decreed for him, and from the son of Adam's misery is his avoiding to request guidance from Allah, and from the son of Adam's misery is his anger with what Allah decreed for him".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the signs of a person's prosperity, which is being content with what Allah has decreed for them and seeking guidance from Him. It also speaks about the misery of a person, which is avoiding to request guidance from Allah and being angry with what He has decreed for them. Being content means accepting whatever comes our way as it was meant to be by God, while seeking guidance means asking God for help in understanding His will so that we can make decisions accordingly. This hadith teaches us that if we are able to accept whatever comes our way without getting angry or frustrated, then we will have true prosperity in life; however if we are unable to do so then it will lead us towards misery instead. Furthermore, it encourages us to always seek guidance from God when making decisions in life as He knows best what is good for us.
