The Danger of Harming One's Will

SUMMARY: Doing good deeds for sixty years does not guarantee a person's salvation if they cause harm in their will.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said: "Indeed a man, and a woman, perform deeds in obedience to Allah for sixty years, then death presents itself to them, and they cause such harm in the will that the Fire becomes warranted for them".Then he recited: After payment of legacies he (or she) may have bequeathed or debts, without causing harm. This is a Commandment from Allah. up to His saying: That is the magnificent success.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Allah’s commandments, Pay off legacies and debts without causing any harm

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of making sure that one’s will is free from any harm. It warns us that even if we have done good deeds for sixty years, it does not guarantee our salvation if we cause harm in our will. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ recited a verse from the Quran which states that after paying off any legacies or debts, one should not cause any harm in their will. This is an important commandment from Allah and following it leads to success and prosperity. We must be careful when writing our wills so as to ensure that no one is harmed by them and all parties are satisfied with the outcome.
