The Dangers of Arrogance

SUMMARY: A person should not be arrogant or boastful, as it can lead to them being written among tyrants and suffering from their afflictions.

Iylas bin Salamah bin Al-Akwa' narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah said: "A man shall remain exalting himself until he is written among the tyrants, so that he suffers from their afflictions".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for humility and modesty in life. Respect the rights of others and treat them with respect. Have a sense of self-respect without feeling superior to others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is a warning against arrogance and pride. It teaches us that if we are too proud or boastful, we will end up in the same company as tyrants and suffer from their afflictions. We should instead strive for humbleness and modesty in our lives, so that we can avoid such consequences. Being humble does not mean that one has to be weak or timid; rather it means having a sense of self-respect without feeling superior to others. It also means recognizing the rights of others and treating them with respect.
