The Sin of Cursing Parents

SUMMARY: It is a great sin to verbally abuse or curse one's parents.

'Abdullah bin 'Amr narrated that : the Messenger of Allah said: "It is among the greatest of sins that a man should curse his parents". They said: "O Messenger of Allah! Does a man curse his parents?" He said: "Yes. He verbally abuses the father of a man, who in turn, verbally abuses his father, and he (retaliates and) curses his mother , so he curses his mother".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is a great sin to verbally abuse or curse one's parents. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that it is among the greatest of sins for someone to do this. He was asked if people actually do this and he replied yes. He explained that when someone verbally abuses their father then the son will retaliate by cursing his mother in return. This hadith teaches us how important it is to respect our parents no matter what they have done wrong as Allah has commanded us to do so in the Quran. We should never forget how much our parents have done for us throughout our lives and we should always show them love and kindness even if they are not perfect themselves.
