Expressing Love for What the Prophet Loved

SUMMARY: Anas bin Malik was eating gourd and expressing his love for it because the Prophet Muhammad liked it.

Narrated Abu Talut: "I entered upon Anas bin Malik while he was eating gourd, and he was saying: 'O you tree! I do not like you but because of the Messenger of Allah liked you'." He said: There is something on this topic from Hakim bin Jarir, from his father. Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Gharib from this route.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي طَالُوتَ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ الْقَرْعَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ يَا لَكِ شَجَرَةً مَا أُحِبُّكِ إِلاَّ لِحُبِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِيَّاكِ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

This hadith is about expressing love for what the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ loved. It is narrated by Abu Talut that he entered upon Anas bin Malik while he was eating gourd and saying "O you tree! I do not like you but because of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ liked you." There is something on this topic from Hakim bin Jarir, from his father as well. This hadith teaches us to show our love for things that are beloved to our beloved prophet ﷺ even if we don't necessarily like them ourselves. We should strive to follow in his footsteps and emulate him in all aspects of life so that we can be closer to him in Paradise.
