The Permissibility of Eating Garlic

SUMMARY: Eating garlic is allowed, but only when it is cooked.

Narrated Sharik bin Hanbal: That 'Ali said: "Eating garlic was prohibited except when cooked".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَدُّويَهْ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَلِيحٍ، وَالِدُ، وَكِيعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ نُهِيَ عَنْ أَكْلِ الثُّومِ، إِلاَّ مَطْبُوخًا

This hadith tells us that eating garlic is permissible, but only when it has been cooked. 'Ali said that eating raw garlic was prohibited.
