Jami at-Tirmidhi 1741 (Book 24, Hadith 22) #27358
Discarding Gold Rings

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ discarded his gold ring and encouraged the people to do the same.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: "The Prophet had a ring of gold made for him which he wore on his right (hand). Then he sat on the Minbar and said: 'I did indeed have this ring on my right hand' then he discarded it and the people discarded their rings". He said: There are narrations on this topic from 'Ali, Jabir, 'Abdullah bin Ja'far, Ibn 'Abbas, 'Aishah, and Anas. Abu 'Eisa said: The Hadith of Ibn 'Umar is Hasan Sahih Hadith. This Hadith has been reported similarly from 'Nafi, from Ibn 'Umar, through routes other than this, and it was not mentioned in it that the ring was on his right hand.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the example of the Prophet by discarding material possessions if they are not necessary for us spiritually or morally .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's example of discarding a gold ring he was wearing on his right hand. He wanted to show that it is not necessary for people to wear such rings as a sign of wealth or status. He also encouraged others to discard their own rings as well in order to follow his example. This hadith teaches us that we should not be too attached to material possessions and instead focus on our spiritual growth and development. We should also strive for humility by avoiding any signs of pride or arrogance in our lives.
