Jami at-Tirmidhi 1704 (Book 23, Hadith 35) #27318
Love for Allah & His Messenger

SUMMARY: The Prophet sent two armies, one commanded by Ali bin Abi Talib and the other by Khalid bin Al-Walid. Ali conquered a fortress and took a slave girl, which Khalid wrote to the Prophet about. The Prophet asked what should be thought of someone who loves Allah and His Messenger, to which the narrator replied that he seeks refuge from angering Allah or His Messenger.

Narrated Al-Bara' : "The Prophet sent two armies, place 'Ali bin Abi Talib as the commanded of one of them, and Khalid bin Al-Walid over the other. He said: 'Where there is fighting, then 'Ali (is in command)'." He said: "So 'Ali conquered a fortress and took a slave girl. Khalid bin Al-Walid wrote a letter and sent me with it to the Prophet , to speak against him for it. So I arrived to the Prophet to read the letter. The color of his face changed, the he said: 'What do you think about a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him?'" He said: "I said: 'I seek refuge from angering Allah and angering His Messenger, I am only the Messenger'. So he was silent. Abu 'Eisa said: There is something about this from Ibn 'Umar. This Hadith is Hasan Gharib, we do not know of it except from the narration of Al-Ahwas bin Jawwab. And his saying: "To speak against him for that". refers to An-namimah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Love God & his messenger

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how much love we should have for Allah and His Messenger. It is narrated by Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib that the Prophet sent two armies with Ali bin Abi Talib as commander of one of them and Khalid bin Al-Walid over the other. He said that wherever there was fighting, then Ali was in command. As a result, Ali conquered a fortress and took a slave girl which Khalid wrote to the Prophet about in a letter. When this letter was read to him, his face changed color before he asked what should be thought of someone who loves Allah and His Messenger? The narrator replied that he seeks refuge from angering either one of them. This hadith teaches us how important it is to love both Allah and His messenger as well as seeking refuge from angering either one of them through our actions or words. We must always remember this when we are faced with difficult decisions or situations in life so that we can make sure our actions are pleasing to both Him and his messenger .
