The Virtue of Frontier Guarding

SUMMARY: Guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah is more virtuous than fasting a month and standing (in prayer) for it, and whoever dies in it will be protected from the trials of the grave.

Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Munkadir: "Salman Al-Farisi passed by Shurahbil bin As-Simt while he was in garrison in which he and his companions were suffering from difficulties. He said to him: 'Shall I narrate to you - O Ibn As-Simt - a Hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ?' He said: 'Of course'. He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: "(Ribat) Guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah is more virtuous" - and perhaps he said: "better, than fasting a month and standing (in prayer) for it. And whoever dies in it, he is protected from the trials of the grave, and his deeds (continuously) multiplied until the Day of Resurrection. Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan.

QUICK LESSONS:
Serve God through your actions

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of guarding one's frontier in service to Allah. It is narrated by Muhammad bin Al Munkadir that Salman Al Farisi passed by Shurahbil bin As Simt while he was in garrison with his companions who were suffering from difficulties. He asked Shurahbil if he could narrate to him a hadith he heard from Prophet Muhammad. He said yes and Salman told him that Prophet Muhammad said that guarding one's frontier for a day in service to Allah is more virtuous than fasting for an entire month or standing up all night praying. Furthermore, whoever dies while doing this will be protected from any trials they may face after death until Judgment Day. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to serve Allah through our actions and how much reward we can receive if we do so with sincerity and dedication. It also reminds us that even though we may suffer hardships during our lifetime, if we remain steadfast on our path then there will be great rewards awaiting us after death.
