The Best & Worst of People

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ is informing us about the best and worst of people, with examples of those who take part in Allah's cause and those who are asked by Allah but do not give.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: That the Prophet said: "Shall I not inform you of the best of the people ? A man who takes hold of the reins of his horse in Allah's cause. Shall I not inform you of the one who comes after him ? The man who secludes himself from the people with a small group of sheep of his, thereby fulfilling Allah's right. Shall I not inform you about the worst of the people ? A man who is asked by (the Name of) Allah, but not given by Him". Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Gharib from this route. This Hadith has been reported through other routes from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to us about the best and worst of people, as described by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He tells us that the best person is one who takes hold of his horse in Allah's cause, meaning they are willing to sacrifice their time and energy for a greater purpose. The second-best person is one who secludes himself from people with a small group of sheep, fulfilling Allah's right - this could mean that they are taking care of animals or helping others in need. Lastly, he tells us that the worst person is someone who is asked by Allah but does not give - this could mean that they have been given wealth or knowledge but do not use it for good deeds or helping others. This hadith teaches us to be generous with our resources and always strive to help others in need so we can be closer to God Almighty.
