The Virtue of Martyrdom

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ said that no one who dies with good deeds would want to return to the world, except for martyrs because of their knowledge of the virtue of martyrdom.

Narrated Anas: That the Prophet , "There is no person who dies having good (prepared for him) with Allah, who wishes to return to the world, and to have the world and all it contains, except for the martyr because of what he knows about the virtue of martyrdom. For, indeed he loves to return to the world so that he may be killed another time". Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. Ibn 'Umar said: "Sufyan bin 'Uyainah said: "Amr bin Dinar was older than Az-Zuhri'."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَمُوتُ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا وَأَنَّ لَهُ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا إِلاَّ الشَّهِيدُ لِمَا يَرَى مِنْ فَضْلِ الشَّهَادَةِ فَإِنَّهُ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا فَيُقْتَلَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ كَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ أَسَنَّ مِنَ الزُّهْرِيِّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of martyrdom. It is narrated by Anas and Ibn 'Umar that Prophet Muhammad said that no one who dies with good deeds would want to return to the world, except for martyrs because they know about the great reward they will receive in Paradise. This hadith teaches us that we should strive for a life full of good deeds so when we die, we can be content knowing our place in Paradise is secure. Furthermore, it also encourages us to be brave and courageous in times of difficulty as this is what Allah rewards most highly. We should not fear death but rather embrace it as an opportunity to gain Allah's pleasure and enter into His eternal paradise.
