Jami at-Tirmidhi 1614 (Book 21, Hadith 77) #27225
Superstition as Shirk and Relying on Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that superstition is a form of shirk and Allah will remove it with reliance on Him.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud: That the Messenger of Allah said: "At-Tiyarah is from Shirk, and none among us (it influences) except that Allah will remove it with Tawakkul (reliance)". Abu 'Eisa said: I heard Muhammad bin Isma'il saying: "Sulaiman bin Harb used to say about this Hadith: 'And none among us (it influences) except that Allah will remove it with Tawakkul (reliance)' - Sulaiman would say: 'To me, this is a saying of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud'." There are narrations on this topic from Sa'd, Abu Hurairah, Habis At-Tamimi, 'Aishah and Ibn 'Umar. This Hadith is Hasan Sahih, we do not know of it except as a narration of Salamah bin Khuail. Shu'bah also reported this Hadith from Salamah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Put your trust in God alone ; Avoid forms of shrik ; Rely on God for protection from harm ; Believe only what is permissible according to Islamic teachings .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the concept of superstition being a form of shirk or associating partners with Allah. It is narrated by several companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) including Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Muhammad bin Isma'il, Sa'd, Abu Hurairah, Habis At-Tamimi, 'Aishah and Ibn 'Umar. The hadith states that no one among us can be influenced by superstitions except that Allah will remove it with reliance on Him. This means that if we put our trust in Allah and rely on Him to protect us from any harm or evil then He will do so for us. We should not put our trust in anything else such as superstitions or omens because these are forms of shirk which are forbidden in Islam.
