Jami at-Tirmidhi 1566 (Book 21, Hadith 27) #27175
Separating Mothers and Children

SUMMARY: It is disliked to separate a mother and her child, as Allah will also separate the person who does this from his beloved on the Day of Judgement.

Narrated Abu Ayyub: That he heard the Messenger of Allah say: "Whoever separates between a mother and her child, then Allah will separate between him and his beloved on the Day of Judgement". Abu 'Eisa said: There is something on this topic from 'Ali. This Hadith is Hasan Gharib. This is acted upon according to the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet and others. They dislike separating the captives, the mother and her child, the son and the father, and brothers.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that whoever separates between a mother and her child, then Allah will also separate between him and his beloved on the Day of Judgement. This means that if someone separates a mother from her child, then Allah will also take away something precious from them in return. The people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺand others have acted upon this hadith by disliking separating captives, mothers and their children, sons from their fathers, or brothers.
