Jami at-Tirmidhi 1545 (Book 20, Hadith 24) #27146
Swearing and Gambling in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if someone swears by false gods, they should instead say "La ilaha illa Allah" and if someone invites another to gamble, they should give charity instead.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: That the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever among you swears, saying in his oath: 'By Al-Lat! By Al-Uzza!' Then let him say 'La ilaha illa Allah' And whoever says: 'Come let me gamble with you!' Then let him give in charity".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us about how to behave when it comes to swearing and gambling. He said that if someone swears using false gods such as Al-Lat or Al-Uzza then they should replace it with saying “La ilaha illa Allah” which means “There is no god but God”. He also said that if someone invites another person to gamble then they should give charity instead of engaging in gambling activities. This hadith teaches us the importance of avoiding swearing by false gods and gambling activities as these are not permissible in Islam. It also encourages us to do good deeds such as giving charity whenever we can so we can benefit from its rewards both in this world and the hereafter.
