QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your promises/vows , Be honest , Be truthful
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fulfilling vows that were made during the pre-Islamic era known as Jahiliyyah. Umar ibn Al-Khattab asked the Prophet Muhammad if he should fulfill a vow he had made during this time and the Prophet advised him to do so. This teaches us that even though we may have done something wrong or not in accordance with Islamic teachings before we accepted Islam, it is still important to keep our promises and fulfill our vows. We should also be honest and truthful in all of our dealings with others regardless of what religion they follow or what beliefs they have. Additionally, this hadith shows us that even though times may change and new laws come into effect, it is still important to honor our commitments from before those changes took place.
