Jami at-Tirmidhi 1533 (Book 20, Hadith 11) #27133
Prohibiting Swearing By One's Father

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ heard 'Umar swearing by his father and warned him that Allah prohibits such an act.

Narrated Salim: From his father (Ibn 'Umar) that the Prophet heard 'Umar saying: "By my father, By my father!" So he said: "Verily Allah prohibits you from swearing by your father". So 'Umar said: "By Allah I did not swear by him after that, neither intentionally nor in narrating".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of swearing by one's father. It was narrated by Salim from his father Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet heard 'Umar saying "By my father!" and warned him that Allah prohibits such an act. This teaches us to be mindful of our words and to not swear or take oaths in vain as it is prohibited in Islam. We should also be careful not to use any form of profanity when speaking or narrating something as this can lead us astray from the teachings of Islam. We should strive to speak with respect and kindness at all times so we can remain on the path of righteousness.
