Prohibiting Cutting Animals While Alive

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ prohibited cutting any part of an animal while it is alive.

Narrated Abu Waqid Al-Laithi: "The Prophet came to Al-Madinah and they were in the habit of cutting the humps off of the camels and cutting the buttocks from the sheep. He said: 'Whatever is cut from an animal while it is alive, then it is dead flesh'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not cause unnecessary pain or suffering to living creatures

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that it is forbidden to cut any part of an animal while it is still alive. The Prophet Muhammad came to Al-Madinah and noticed that people were in the habit of cutting the humps off camels and cutting the buttocks from sheep. He then said, “Whatever is cut from an animal while it is alive, then it is dead flesh”. This means that if you cut something off a living animal, then whatever was cut off will be considered dead meat and not permissible for consumption or use in any way. This hadith also teaches us about compassion towards animals as we should not cause them unnecessary pain or suffering by cutting them while they are still alive.
