Punishment for Theft in Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the punishment of a thief, which was to cut off his hand and hang it around his neck.

'Abdur-Rahman bin Muhariz said: "I asked Fadalah bin 'Ubaid about hanging the hand around the neck of the thief: 'Is this from the Sunnah?' He said: 'A man came to the Messenger of Allah with a thief so his hand was cut off, and then he ordered that it be hung around his neck'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic laws regarding punishments for crimes/thefts

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the punishment for theft in Islam. According to this hadith, if someone is caught stealing, their hand should be cut off and then hung around their neck as a sign of humiliation. This punishment serves as a deterrent for others who may be tempted to steal. It also serves as an example of how serious Allah takes theft and how important it is to stay away from such activities. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us that we should not take matters into our own hands when it comes to punishing thieves; instead, we should leave it up to the authorities or those in charge of justice. This teaches us that justice must be served fairly and without bias or prejudice towards any particular group or individual. Additionally, this hadith reminds us that we must always strive for justice even if it means punishing someone harshly; after all, Allah has commanded us not to let injustice prevail on earth.
