Jami at-Tirmidhi 1410 (Book 16, Hadith 26) #26990
Ruling on Ghurrah in the Case of a Fetus

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ruled that a Ghurrah, which is a male or female slave, should be given in the case of a fetus.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: "The Messenger of Allah judged that a Ghurrah male slave or female slave be given in the case of a fetus. The one of the judgement was made against said: 'Should we give something for one who did not drink, not eat, nor cry out to shed a tear, the likes of which is useless?' So the Prophet said: 'This is the speech of a poet. Rather it requires a Ghurrah: a male slave or a female slave'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow rulings made by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) even if we do not understand them at first glance.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the ruling made by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding what should be done in the case of a fetus. In this hadith, it is mentioned that when someone was judged to give something for an unborn child who did not drink, eat or cry out to shed tears, they asked if it was necessary. The Prophet ﷺ replied that this was like poetry and instead required giving something such as a male or female slave known as 'Ghurrah'. This hadith teaches us about justice and fairness even when dealing with those who are unable to speak for themselves. It also shows us how important it is to follow rulings made by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ even if we do not understand them at first glance.
