The Prohibition of Suckling

SUMMARY: Breastfeeding does not cause any prohibitions unless the milk enters the intestines before weaning.

Umm Salamah narrated that The Messenger of Allah said: "No prohibition results from suckling except for what penetrates the intestines while on the breast before weaning".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your child's diet; Ensure they get all their nutrients from healthy sources such as solid foods; Take responsibility towards your child's health & wellbeing; Follow Islamic teachings regarding nutrition & parenting .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about breastfeeding and its effects on a person's life. It states that no prohibition results from suckling, or nursing, except for what penetrates the intestines while on the breast before weaning. This means that if a baby is still being breastfed when it reaches an age where it can eat solid food, then any milk that enters its intestines will be considered as part of its diet and will not cause any prohibitions in terms of marriage or other matters. However, once the baby has been weaned off breastfeeding and is eating solid food exclusively, then any milk entering its intestines would be considered as something prohibited and would result in certain restrictions being placed upon it. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our children's diets and to ensure that they are getting all their nutrients from healthy sources such as solid foods rather than relying solely on breastfeeding for nutrition.
