Jami at-Tirmidhi 1122 (Book 11, Hadith 44) #26690
The Origin and Unlawfulness of Mut'ah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the origin of Mut'ah, a temporary marriage in Islam, and how it was made unlawful after a certain verse was revealed.

Muhammad bin Ka'b narrated that: Ibn Abbas said: "Mut'ah was only during the beginning of Islam. A man would arrive in a land that he was not familiar with so he would marry a woman for the extent of time that he thought he would remain there. So his Mut'ah was upheld and his case was fine until the (following) Ayah was revealed: Except their wives or what their right hands possess. Then every private part other than those became unlawful".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the origin of Mut’ah, which is a type of temporary marriage in Islam. It was practiced during the early days of Islam when people would travel to unfamiliar lands and marry someone for the duration that they thought they would stay there. However, this practice became unlawful after a certain verse from the Quran was revealed. The verse stated that all private parts other than those belonging to one's wife or what their right hands possess were now considered unlawful. This means that any kind of sexual relations outside marriage are now forbidden in Islam according to this verse from the Quran.
