Jami at-Tirmidhi 833 (Book 9, Hadith 26) #26399
Clothing in the Haram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed people on what clothing to wear in the Haram and what not to wear.

Ibn Umar narrated: "A man stood and said 'O Messenger of Allah! What clothing do you command us to wear in Al-Haram?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Do not wear shirts, nor pants, nor burnooses, nor turbans, nor Khuff - unless one does not have any sandals, then let him wear Khuff, but let him cut them below the ankles. And do not wear any cloth that has been touched by saffron or Wars. And the woman in Ihram is not to cover her face, nor wear gloves'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Wear appropriate clothing while visiting Al-Haram

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn Umar states that when visiting the holy site of Al-Haram it is important to dress appropriately. Men should not wear shirts or pants and should avoid wearing burnooses or turbans. If one does not have sandals then they may wear Khuff but must cut them below the ankles. Women are also instructed not to cover their face nor wear gloves while in Ihram. Furthermore, it is advised that neither men nor women should wear any cloth that has been touched by saffron or Wars. This hadith emphasizes the importance of dressing modestly and respectfully when visiting a holy site such as Al-Haram as a sign of reverence for Allah's house.
