Jami at-Tirmidhi 798 (Book 8, Hadith 117) #26363
Paying Ransom Instead of Fasting

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when a verse of the Quran was revealed, some people chose to pay ransom instead of fasting if it was difficult for them.

Salamah bin Al-Akwa said: "When the following was revealed: 'And for those upon whom it is difficult, (they may) feed a poor person' - if one of us wanted we would not fast, and pay the ransom, until the Ayah after it was revealed abrogating it".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when a verse from the Quran was revealed, some people chose to pay ransom instead of fasting if it was difficult for them. The verse stated that those who find it difficult to fast can feed a poor person as an alternative. However, this ruling was later abrogated by another verse in the Quran. This hadith teaches us about how rulings in Islam can change over time and how we should be aware of these changes so we can practice our faith correctly. It also teaches us about charity and helping those in need, which is an important part of Islamic teachings.
