Repentance and Property

SUMMARY: Ka'b bin Malik asked the Prophet (ﷺ) for advice on how to repent and the Prophet (ﷺ) advised him to keep some of his property for himself.

Narrated Ka'b bin Malik: I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! For the acceptance of my repentance I wish to give all my property in charity for Allah's sake through His Apostle ". He said, "It is better for you to keep some of the property for yourself". I said, "Then I will keep my share in Khaibar".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with one's wealth by giving charity while being mindful of one's own needs and those around them who may be less fortunate than oneself.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about repentance and property. When Ka'b bin Malik asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for advice on how to repent, he was told that it would be better if he kept some of his property for himself. The Prophet ﷺ was teaching us that when we are trying to repent, we should not give away all our possessions in charity as this could leave us without any means of support or sustenance. Instead, it is better to keep some of our wealth so that we can use it in a responsible manner and help others who are in need. This hadith also teaches us about being generous with our wealth by giving charity but at the same time being mindful of our own needs as well as those around us who may be less fortunate than ourselves.
