Jami at-Tirmidhi 771 (Book 8, Hadith 90) #26336
Celebrating Eid Days

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prohibition of fasting on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and encourages Muslims to celebrate these days.

Abu Ubaid, the freed slave of Abdur-Rahman bin Awf narrated: "I witnessed Umar bin Al-Khattab on the Day of Nahr beginning with the Salat before the Khutbah. Then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah prohibit fasting on these two days. As for the Day of Fitr, then it is for you to take a break from your fasting, and a celebration for the Muslims. As for the Day of Adha, then eat from the flesh that you have sacrificed'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect religious holidays by not fasting but celebrating with family & friends; remember Allah through acts such as sacrificing animals for food or charity purposes .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about two important Islamic holidays, known as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. On these days, Muslims are prohibited from fasting and encouraged to celebrate instead. Umar bin Al Khattab was a companion of Prophet Muhammad who narrated this hadith in which he said that he heard Prophet Muhammad forbid fasting on these two special days. He also said that on the Day of Fitr it is a time for Muslims to take a break from their fasting and have a celebration together while on the Day of Adha they should eat from the flesh they have sacrificed as an act of worship. This hadith teaches us that we should not fast during these two special occasions but rather use them as an opportunity to come together with our families and friends in celebration while also remembering Allah through acts such as sacrificing animals for food or charity purposes.
