Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave permission to Hamzah bin Amr Al-Aslami to fast while travelling or break the fast.

Aishah narrated that : Hamzah bin Amr Al-Aslami asked the Messenger of Allah about fasting while traveling, and he fasted regularly. So the Messenger of Allah said: 'If you wish then fast, and if you wish then break (the fast)'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Consider your health when making decisions; follow Islamic rulings related to travel; be flexible with your decisions when necessary.
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) advice to Hamzah bin Amr Al-Aslami regarding fasting while travelling. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave him permission to either fast or break his fast depending on his wish and convenience. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible for a person who is travelling to break their fast if they feel too weak or tired due to their journey and it will not be counted as a sin against them. It also teaches us that we should be considerate of our own health and wellbeing when making decisions in life and not put ourselves in harm's way unnecessarily.
