Wiping Over Khuff During Wudu

SUMMARY: Jarir bin Abdullah saw the Prophet performing wudu and wiping over his khuff, and he accepted Islam after Al-Ma'idah.

Shahr bin Hawshab said: "I saw Jarir bin Abdullah performing Wudu and wiping over his Khuff". He said: "So I asked him: 'What is that?' He said: 'I saw the Prophet performing Wudu and he wiped over his Khuff'. So I said to him: 'Before Al-Ma'idah or after Al-Ma'idah?' He said: 'I did not accept Islam until after Al-Ma'idah'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform wudu before prayer
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Islamic practice of ablution, which is a ritual cleansing before prayer. It was narrated by Shahr bin Hawshab that he saw Jarir bin Abdullah performing wudu and wiping over his khuff. When asked what it was, Jarir said that he had seen the Prophet doing it as well. He then clarified that he had accepted Islam after Al-Ma'idah, which refers to the Tablets of Stone given to Moses on Mount Sinai containing God's commandments for Muslims to follow. This hadith teaches us that we should perform wudu in order to be spiritually clean before prayer and also shows us how important it is to follow God's commands as revealed in the Quran and Hadith.
