Jami at-Tirmidhi 602 (Book 6, Hadith 59) #26167
Combining Surahs for Recitation

SUMMARY: Abdullah bin Mas'ud was asked about a phrase in the Quran and he responded by saying that it is permissible to recite all of the Quran except for this phrase. He then mentioned twenty surahs from the Mufassal which the Prophet would combine and recite two at a time in one Rak'ah.

Abu Wa'il said: "A man asked Abdullah bin Mas'ud about this phrase: 'Ghairi asin' or is it Yasin? So he said: 'You can recite all of the Quran besides this phrase?' He said: 'Yes'. He said: 'Indeed a people recite it, disbursing it like Ad-Daqqa are dispersed, without it passing their throats. Indeed I am aware of the surahs that are comparable which the Messenger of Allah would recite together'." He said: "So we told Alqamah to ask him (what they were). He said: "Twenty surahs from the Mufassal from which the Prophet would combine, reciting every two Surah in a Rak'ah'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow rules when reciting verses from Allah's book; Strive to learn more about these rules; Strive to understand & pronounce difficult parts of Qur’an; Respect God's word; Be mindful when reciting verses from Allah's book

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about reciting the Quran and how it is permissible to recite all of it except for one phrase. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also combined certain surahs from the Mufassal section of the Quran and recited them two at a time in one Rak’ah. This shows us that we should be mindful when reciting verses from Allah’s book as there are certain rules we must follow when doing so. We should also strive to learn more about these rules so that our recitations are accepted by Allah SWT. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that even though some parts of the Qur’an may be difficult to understand or pronounce, we should still strive to learn them as much as possible so that our worship can be accepted by Allah SWT.
