Prayer Times & Number of Rak'ah While Resident & Traveling

SUMMARY: The hadith explains the prayer times and number of Rak'ah for Zuhr, Asr, and Maghrib prayers while a resident or traveling.

Ibn Umar narrated: "I prayed with the Prophet both, while a resident and while traveling. So I prayed four for Zuhr with him as a resident, and two Rak'ah after it. I prayed two Rak'ah for Zuhr with him while traveling and two Rak'ah after it, and two Rak'ah for Asr, and he did not pray anything after it. Maghrib while a resident and traveling is the same; three Rak'ah, it is not decreased as a resident nor while traveling. It is Witr of the day, and after it are two Rak'ah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray consistently no matter where you are or what situation you find yourself in; whether at home or travelling away from home your religious duties remain unchanged .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the prayer times and number of Rak'ah for Zuhr, Asr, and Maghrib prayers while a resident or traveling. When one is a resident they should pray four Rak'ah for Zuhr with two after it. When one is traveling they should pray two Rak'ah for Zuhr with two after it. For both residents and travelers Maghrib prayer should be three Rak'ah without any decrease in the number of rakats. After this prayer there are two more rakats which are known as witir which completes the day's salat. This hadith teaches us to be consistent in our prayers no matter where we are or what situation we find ourselves in; whether we are at home or travelling away from home our religious duties remain unchanged.
