Sahih al-Bukhari 2723 (Book 54, Hadith 12) #2604
Deceiving Others and Divorce in Islam

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to deceive people by offering a high price for something one does not want to buy, nor should one offer more for something already bought by another Muslim, nor should a Muslim woman try to bring about the divorce of her sister in order to take her place.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "No town-dweller should sell for a bedouin. Do not practice Najsh (ie Do not offer a high price for a thing which you do not want to buy, in order to deceive the people). No Muslim should offer more for a thing already bought by his Muslim brother, nor should he demand the hand of a girl already engaged to another Muslim. A Muslim woman shall not try to bring about The divorce of her sister (ie another Muslim woman) in order to take her place herself".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that it is forbidden for Muslims to deceive others. We must not offer a high price for something we do not want just so that we can trick people into thinking it is valuable. Additionally, we must not offer more money than what was previously offered by another Muslim when buying an item. Furthermore, it is also forbidden for a Muslim woman to try and bring about the divorce of her sister in order to take her place herself. These teachings remind us that as Muslims, we must be honest and sincere with each other at all times and never resort to deception or manipulation in our dealings with others.
