Grateful Worshipping

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (S) performing salat with great devotion and dedication, even though his past and future sins have been forgiven.

Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah narrated: "Allah's Messenger (S) performed Salat until his feet were swollen, so it was said to him: 'You burden yourself like this, while your past and future sins have been forgiven?' He said: 'Shouldn't I be a grateful worshipper?'"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of being a grateful worshipper to Allah. It tells us that even though our past and future sins have been forgiven, we should still strive to be devoted in our worship of Allah. We should not take for granted the mercy that has been bestowed upon us by Allah, but instead show gratitude through our worship. This hadith also serves as an example for us to follow in terms of how devotedly we should perform salat. The Prophet Muhammad's dedication to prayer was so strong that his feet were swollen from standing in prayer for long periods of time. We can learn from this example and strive to be more dedicated in our own prayers as well as other forms of worshiping Allah.
