The Prayer of Salam Recited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the prayer of salam that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite after his prayers.

Aishah narrated: "When Allah's Messenger said the Salam he would not remain seated except long enough to say: (Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, tabarakta dhal jalali wal-Ikram) 'O Allah! You are the One free of defects, and perfection is from You. Blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honor'."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِذَا سَلَّمَ لاَ يَقْعُدُ إِلاَّ مِقْدَارَ مَا يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the prayer of salam that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite after his prayers. It is a short and concise prayer which praises Allah and acknowledges His perfection and blessings. The words in this prayer are “Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, tabarakta dhal jalali wal-Ikram” which translates to “O Allah! You are the One free of defects, and perfection is from You. Blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honor”. Through this hadith we learn that we should always thank Allah for His blessings upon us no matter how small they may be. We should also acknowledge His greatness as He is perfect in every way possible.
