Jami at-Tirmidhi 236 (Book 2, Hadith 88) #25801
Brevity in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet advises people to be brief when leading prayer, as there are people of different ages and abilities present. When praying alone, one can pray however they wish.

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Prophet said: "When one of you leads the people in prayer then let him be brief, for indeed here are among them the young and the old, the weak and the ill. When one of you prays alone, then let him pray as he wishes".

QUICK LESSONS:
Lead prayers briefly ; Respect others' needs and abilities ; Come together in worship ; Pray however you wish when alone

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of brevity when leading prayer for a congregation. It is important to keep prayers short so that those who are young, old, weak or ill can still participate without feeling overwhelmed or exhausted. When praying alone however, one has the freedom to pray as they wish and for as long as they want. This hadith also emphasizes the importance of respecting everyone’s individual needs and abilities while still being able to come together in worship.
