Drawing Lots Among Wives

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to draw lots among his wives when he intended to go on a journey, and Sauda bint Zam'a gave her day and night to 'Aisha in order to please Allah's Messenger.

Narrated Aisha: Whenever Allah's Messenger intended to go on a journey, he used to draw lots among his wives and would take with him the one on whom the lot fell. He also used to fix for everyone of his wives a day and a night, but Sauda bint Zam'a gave her day and night to 'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet intending thereby to please Allah's Messenger .

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for the pleasure of Allah’s messenger through your actions, be kind towards others.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Aisha explains that whenever the Prophet Muhammad was about to embark on a journey, he would draw lots among his wives. This was done so that each wife would have an equal chance of accompanying him. Additionally, Sauda bint Zam'a gave her day and night with the Prophet Muhammad to 'Aisha in order to please him. This shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to strive for the pleasure of Allah's Messenger through our actions. We should always try our best not only in our worship but also in our interactions with others so that we can gain the pleasure of Allah and His messenger.
