Sahih al-Bukhari 2685 (Book 52, Hadith 46) #2568
Relying on Qur'an for Knowledge

SUMMARY: Muslims should not ask the people of the scriptures about their distorted scriptures, as they have the most recent information from Allah in the form of Qur'an.

Narrated Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Utba: Ibn 'Abbas said, "O Muslims? How do you ask the people of the Scriptures, though your Book (ie the Qur'an) which was revealed to His Prophet is the most recent information from Allah and you recite it, the Book that has not been distorted? Allah has revealed to you that the people of the scriptures have changed with their own hands what was revealed to them and they have said (as regards their changed Scriptures): This is from Allah, in order to get some worldly benefit thereby". Ibn 'Abbas added: "Isn't the knowledge revealed to you sufficient to prevent you from asking them? By Allah I have never seen any one of them asking (Muslims) about what has been revealed to you".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is a reminder to Muslims that they should rely on the knowledge revealed to them through Quran, rather than asking people of other scriptures. The hadith highlights that even though other scriptures may have been distorted by their own hands, Muslims still have access to an undistorted source of knowledge in Quran which was revealed by Allah himself. It also emphasizes that this knowledge is sufficient for them and there is no need to seek any further information from others. This hadith teaches us that we should be content with what we already know and not look for answers outside our faith or religion.
