Responding to Greetings While Urinating

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) did not respond to a man who greeted him while he was urinating.

Ibn Umar narrated: "A man greeted the Prophet (with Salam), and he was urinating, so he did not respond to him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) by refraining from responding to salutations while engaging in acts such as urination.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the etiquette of responding to salutations while one is in the process of urinating. It teaches us that it is not appropriate to respond to greetings when one is engaged in such an act, as it would be considered disrespectful and impolite. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ set an example for us by not responding when someone greeted him while he was urinating, showing us that we should follow suit and refrain from doing so as well. We should also remember that this applies even if we are in a hurry or preoccupied with something else; politeness and respect should always come first.
