Jami at-Tirmidhi 10 (Book 1, Hadith 10) #25575
Facing the Qiblah While Urinating

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet urinating while facing the Qiblah, and it is more correct than Ibn Lahi'ah's hadith.

Abu Qatadah narrated that : he saw the Prophet urinating while facing the Qiblah. Qutaibah narrated that to us, he said: "Ibn Lahi'ah informed us". Jabir's Hadlth about the Prophet is more correct than the Hadith of Ibn Lahi'ah. Ibn Lahi'ah is weak according to the scholars of Hadith. He was graded weak by Yahya bin Sa'eed Al-Qattan, and others, due to his memorization.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect religious places/objects when relieving oneself; Consider sources carefully before believing them; Face towards qiblas when relieving oneself .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about how the Prophet used to urinate while facing the qibla. It was narrated by Abu Qatadah who saw it himself and then passed on to others such as Qutaibah and Ibn Lahi'ah. However, Jabir's Hadlth about this matter is more reliable than that of Ibn Lahi'ah since he was graded weak by Yahya bin Sa'eed Al-Qattan due to his memorization skills. This shows us that we should be careful when taking narrations from people and make sure they are reliable sources before believing them. We should also remember that when we go to relieve ourselves, we should face towards the qiblas so as not to disrespect it in any way.
