Saying Ghufranak When Exiting the Toilet

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) would say a phrase when exiting the toilet.

'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her said: "When the Prophet would exit the toilet he would say: 'Ghufranak'."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رضى الله عنها قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنَ الْخَلاَءِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ غُفْرَانَكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ‏.‏ وَأَبُو بُرْدَةَ بْنُ أَبِي مُوسَى اسْمُهُ عَامِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ الأَشْعَرِيُّ ‏.‏ وَلاَ نَعْرِفُ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ إِلاَّ حَدِيثَ عَائِشَةَ رضى الله عنها عَنِ النَّبِيِّ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us many things about how to live our lives in accordance with Islamic teachings. One of these teachings is that we should always maintain cleanliness and hygiene in our daily lives. This hadith tells us that when the Prophet ﷺ exited the toilet, he would say a prayer known as “Ghufranak” which translates to “I seek forgiveness from Allah”. This teaches us that we should always remember to ask for forgiveness from Allah even for something as small as using the restroom. It also reminds us of how important it is to stay clean and hygienic at all times and not take it for granted.
