Greetings in Pre-Islamic and Islamic Periods

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that in the pre-Islamic period, people used to greet each other with phrases such as "May Allah make the eye happy for you" and "Good morning", but when Islam came, they were forbidden from saying these phrases.

Narrated Imran ibn Husayn: In the pre-Islamic period we used to say: "May Allah make the eye happy for you," and "Good morning" but when Islam came, we were forbidden to say that.

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak kindly & politely; Maintain good relationships with others around us; Use more specific expressions that are clear & unambiguous; Be mindful of our words & actions; Strive for clarity & understanding between two parties
EXPLANATIONS:
Before the advent of Islam, people used to greet each other with phrases such as “May Allah make your eye happy” or “Good morning”. However, when Islam was revealed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, it was forbidden for people to use these phrases. This is because these expressions are not specific enough and could be interpreted in different ways. Therefore, it is better to use more specific expressions that are clear and unambiguous so that there is no confusion or misunderstanding between two parties. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about being mindful of our words and actions since they can have a great impact on our lives. We should always strive to speak kindly and politely so that we can maintain good relationships with others around us.
