Sunan Abi Dawud 5161 (Book 43, Hadith 389) #25452
Kind Treatment of Slaves

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught us to treat our slaves with kindness, feeding them from what we eat and clothing them with what we wear, but to sell those who do not please us without punishing them.

Narrated AbuDharr: The Prophet said: Feed those of your slaves who please you from what you eat and clothe them with what you clothe yourselves, but sell those who do not please you and do not punish Allah's creatures.

QUICK LESSONS:
Feed your slaves from what you eat; Clothe your slaves with what you wear; Treat all creatures with respect and dignity regardless of their social status or position in life; Be kind and compassionate towards those less fortunate than yourself; Do not punish Allah's creatures.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught us that it is important to treat our slaves kindly. We should feed them from the same food that we eat and clothe them in the same clothes that we wear. However, if they do not please us, then it is acceptable to sell them without punishing or mistreating them in any way. This hadith teaches us about being kind and compassionate towards those who are less fortunate than ourselves, even if they are our slaves. It also reminds us of the importance of treating all creatures with respect and dignity regardless of their social status or position in life.
