Turning Away from the New Moon

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would turn away his face from the new moon when he saw it.

Narrated Qatadah: When the Messenger of Allah saw the new moon, he turned away his face from it. Abu Dawud said: On this subject there is no tradition which has perfect chain and is sound.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ حُبَابٍ، أَخْبَرَهُمْ عَنْ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلاَلَ صَرَفَ وَجْهَهُ عَنْهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ لَيْسَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ حَدِيثٌ مُسْنَدٌ صَحِيحٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) practice of turning away his face from the new moon when he saw it.
