Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam: The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man makes a promise to his brother with the intention of fulfilling it and does not do so, and does not come at the appointed time, he is guilty of no sin.
This hadith also teaches us about being mindful of our intentions when making promises or commitments. We should always have good intentions when making any kind of commitment or agreement with another person so that both parties can trust each other and feel secure in their relationship. It also reminds us that even if something unexpected happens which prevents one from fulfilling their promise, there will still be no sin upon them as long as their intention was sincere at the time of making the commitment or agreement.
