Sunan Abi Dawud 4989 (Book 43, Hadith 217) #25280
The Power of Truth

SUMMARY: Speaking truth leads to good deeds and paradise, while speaking falsehood leads to wickedness and hell.

'Abd Allah (b. Mas’ud) reported the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) as saying : Avoid falsehood, for falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness to hell; and if a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as a great liar. And adhere to truth, for truth leads to good deeds, and good deeds lead to paradise. If a man continues to speak the truth and makes truth his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as eminently truthful.

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak truthfully and avoid falsehoods

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of speaking truth and avoiding falsehood. It teaches us that if we speak truth, it will lead us to do good deeds which will eventually take us to paradise. On the other hand, if we speak falsehood, it will lead us to wickedness which will take us to hell. This hadith also shows how powerful our words can be; they can either bring us closer or further away from Allah's mercy depending on whether they are truthful or false. Therefore, this hadith encourages Muslims to always strive for honesty in their speech and actions so that they may be rewarded with Allah's mercy in the hereafter.
