Sahih al-Bukhari 2636 (Book 51, Hadith 68) #2522
The Impermissibility of Buying Back Charity

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to buy back something that has been given in charity.

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: Once I gave a horse (for riding) in Allah's Cause. Later I saw it being sold. I asked Allah's Messenger (whether I could buy it). He said, "Don't buy it, for you should not get back what you have given in charity".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously with sincerity and without expecting anything in return from Allah or anyone else.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving charity and how it should be done with sincerity and without expecting anything in return. It is narrated by 'Umar bin Al-Khattab, who once gave a horse for riding in Allah's cause. Later, he saw it being sold and asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if he could buy it back. The Prophet ﷺ replied that he should not buy it as one should not get back what they have given in charity. This hadith teaches us that when we give something away, we must do so with an open heart and without expecting anything in return from Allah or anyone else. We must also remember that whatever we give away will never come back to us, no matter how much we may want it to do so.
